December 1, 2017Drone Roof Inspection: What’re the Best Drones to Use
December 5, 2017Ever considered aerial photography? You should. There is a ton of drone footage which captures spectacular aerial photographs online, and while you are drooling over how impeccable these footages are, some young chap out there is churning out these photographs.
You probably haven’t got the hang of aerial photography with drones which is why you are yet to consider having an epic time as a drone hobbyist. We have compiled a brief list of some powerful tips to help you get started.
Aerial Photography: Setting things straight…
Find the perfect drone for you
The first thing you would need to have is, of course, a drone. Although, this shouldn’t take you a lot of time to find you should consider several things before opting for a drone. One of which is, your budget.
There are a lot of drones out there and while we already know the king of drones for consumers is DJI with the Phantom 3 standard being a budget drone for consumers with a budget of about 500USD. If you are not bothered about the budget, then you have options of several other high-end drones such as the Mayic Pro which retails at twice the price of the DJI Phantom 3 Standard.
Asides’ considering your budget, another factor to consider before selecting the perfect drone is – what you are going to be using the drone for. Since we are discussing aerial photography, you might want to try products like the Phantom 4, Mayic Pro both by recognized manufacturer DJI or Typhoon H.f by Yuneec.
You want to get this right if you would be delving into the aerial photography world.
Autonomous flights
It’s not always easy to pilot a drone off the ground and as well shoot impressive images and videos right at the same time. If you are more focused on keeping your drone steady in the air, then you might end up not getting a great picture and vice-versa.
With autonomous flights, however, you should be able to do both at the same time, mostly with just a click of a button. Most of the best drones in the market today offer this functionality, allowing hobbyists enjoy aerial photography maneuvers, slick movement, in and out location zoom and have your drone keep you in the shot.
If you are new to drones, you will enjoy the ease that autonomous flights bring about as they are less complicated to fly and still capture excellent footage from above without sacrificing one for the other.
No-fly Zones
Flying responsibly is very important for all drone users. This is why you should learn a thing or two about no-fly zones and respective regulations of the community you plan flying the drone in.
Here’s a quick tip: Don’t fly zones at altitudes over 400ft – if you must, get approval from CASA. Don’t fly drones in National Parks, at airports and generally where your drone may inconvenience or affect the general populace.
Insurance
These days insurance covers almost everything you hold dear and since your drone isn’t going to come cheap (if you are going for some high-quality drones for your aerial photography journey) why not have it insured? It’s no news that drone crashes now and then and most new drone pilots are almost certain of having their high-end drone hitting the ground hard a couple of times. Also, expert drone pilots are always advised to have insurance coverage for their prized collections.
Post-Production and Finishing Touches
Alright, if you have already started getting the hang of things and taking great aerial photographs and videos it’s time to fix the final footage to an impressive finish. There is a lot of software available to help you fine-tune your aerial photography prowess and even major manufacturers like GoPro have services to assist with this post-production and finishing touches.
It’s important to have your footage fine-tuned so you can share with family or friends and even the entire internet via blogs or social media.
